An online library of free videos for learners everywhere - find resources to help you learn just about anything, meet people who make a difference in their communities, and even discover new parts of the world. And Next Vista for Learning wants to post your educational videos online, too. Everyone has an insight to share and yours may be just what some student or teacher somewhere needs!
Ok, so you've probably seen some of these, but I needed a snazzy title. I recently compiled two lists of sites from Richard Byrne's Blog - the site is an amazing resource, and I'm pretty certain that Richard doesn't sleep. These aren't in order of greatness - they all have their own specific applications for education. A few of these appear on my Sites for Kids (and Teachers) page.
Enjoy!
"At Two Waters Primary School, teacher Julia Turner uses formative assessment in a Year 6 revision lesson on light. First, she works with pupils to determine their learning intentions. Then, using mind mapping, she collaborates with her class to develop success criteria.
Her pupils are given responsibility for their own learning. They work in small groups or pairs and choose their own resources. They often leave the classroom to use the library and ICT suite.

"With the advent of the World Wide Web and the huge amount of information that is contained there, students need to be able to critically evaluate a Web page for authenticity, applicability, authorship, bias, and usability. The ability to critically evaluate information is an important skill in this information age.
To help you get started with this process with your students, I have designed a series of evaluation surveys, one each at the elementary, middle, and secondary school levels. The elementary, middle, and secondary surveys have been re-designed and updated in February of 2009. The virtual tour, blog, podcast, and teacher site evaluations have been added since 2005 and updated in 2009."
"Talking History, based at the University at Albany, State University of New York, is a production, distribution, and instructional center for all forms of "aural" history. Our mission is to provide teachers, students, researchers and the general public with as broad and outstanding a collection of audio documentaries, speeches, debates, oral histories, conference sessions, commentaries, archival audio sources, and other aural history resources as is available anywhere."
This is a resource for grade level teachers to prepare students to use technology appropriately and being mindful of the citizenship skills they already possess.
A SmartBoard mini-movie is a simple (most involve only a click of the mouse), interactive animation that teachers can download and add to their galleries. From there, the movies can be inserted into their SMART Notebook presentations. Each mini-movie is a dynamic Flash file, similar to the same files that are already included in SMART Notebook's resources.
This collection of editors' choices from TeachersFirst will spark summer excitement for parents and kids alike.
Whether your want to create something, ignite new learning, or hold on to what you already know, you will savor these safe, reviewer-recommended resources. Be sure to share with your friends, neighbors, and family. Teachers will want to share this page with students departing for summer break.
Summer will never be "boring" again!

The Principles and Standards for School Mathematics outlines the essential components of a high-quality school mathematics program. It calls for and presents a common foundation of mathematics to be learned by all students. The Standards are a guide for focused, sustained efforts to improve students' school mathematics and were developed to do the following:
* Set forth a comprehensive and coherent set of learning goals in mathematics for all students from pre‑K through grade 12 that will orient curricular, teaching, and assessment efforts during the next decades.
* Serve as a resource for teachers, education leaders, and policymakers to use in improving mathematics instruction.
* Guide the development of curriculum frameworks, assessments, and instructional materials.
All Illuminations lessons and activities are designed in alignment with the Principles and Standards.
